The only thing it adds is the mechanical flip animation, which is the entire point of a flip clock in the first place.
Focus mode is the aesthetic choice that matters most here. Stop moving the mouse for 3 seconds and every button fades out, leaving nothing on screen but the time. Move the mouse and the controls return. In fullscreen, this turns the display into something closer to a piece of ambient decor than a utility.
